5-mile stretch of Rainbow set for yearlong pavement improvement project

5‑mile stretch of Rainbow Boulevard slated for year‑long pavement improvement project Crews will begin upgrading a 5‑mile segment of Rainbow Boulevard this weekend, initiating traffic restrictions on the busy road. The Rainbow Boulevard Pavement Improvement Project, which starts Sunday, affects a lengthy portion of the heavily used north‑south thoroughfare between Tropicana Avenue and Silverstream Avenue, according to the Nevada Department of Transportation. The work will include pavement upgrades, updated traffic signals, and Americans with Disabilities Act improvements. As part of the project, NDOT has identified three intersections on Rainbow at Nara Vista Way, Via Olivero Way, and Del Rey Avenue where median changes are required. The three intersections were selected based on traffic data and crash history, with the planned changes intended to reduce crash risk and improve traffic flow. Initial traffic restrictions associated with the project will commence this weekend. Between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m., Sunday night through Friday morning, continuing through August 14, Rainbow will be reduced to one lane intermittently in each direction between Tropicana and Silverstream. The lane closures will shift as work progresses on Rainbow. No work will occur on the project during Friday or Saturday evenings. The restrictions are necessary for crews to safely install traffic control devices, prepare the work zone, and begin construction. The project is expected to be completed in summer 2027. During periods when work is active, the speed limit on affected stretches of Rainbow will be reduced to 35 mph within work zones.
