Mountbatten-Windsor was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office and later released under investigation in February.

Andrew Mountbatten‑Windsor has initiated legal proceedings concerning the search warrants that preceded his February arrest. The former prince was detained on suspicion of misconduct in public office following allegations that surfaced from the Epstein files in the United States. His legal team is challenging the warrants executed at Sandringham’s Marsh Farm and at Royal Lodge in Windsor, a move first reported by the Telegraph. Thames Valley Police confirmed the action, stating: “We are engaged in legal proceedings in relation to warrants previously obtained from the Central Criminal Court.” A spokesperson for the unit that carried out the arrest added, “As these legal proceedings are presently ongoing, it would be inappropriate for us to comment further.” Mountbatten‑Windsor, who was stripped of his princely title and the Dukedom of York after his association with convicted offender Jeffrey Epstein came to light, is understood to have filed a judicial review questioning the legality of those warrants. Officers were observed conducting searches for several days at both his Sandringham property and his former residence on the Windsor estate. The arrest occurred on his 66th birthday, after which he was taken to Aylsham police station. A photograph taken later that day showed him departing the station, appearing exhausted, following his release under investigation. Thames Valley Police emphasized that its investigation remains active. Mountbatten‑Windsor has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing linked to his contacts with Epstein.
