Apparent human remains found in US reservoir as water levels hit record low

A woman and her companion discovered bone fragments while visiting the Nevada side of the reservoir that straddles the Arizona border. Dianelis Molina Cruz, speaking to CBS affiliate KLAS, recounted: "My person was playing with the rocks successful the lake, and past helium grabbed the jaw. And erstwhile helium looked, helium saw the teeth and everything." Her companion, Noel De Leon, linked the find to the reservoir’s declining water levels. He stated: "The h2o looks precise debased compared to wherever it should be," helium said. "As the h2o goes down, the skeletons travel up." Lake Mead, the nation’s largest reservoir, has seen its water levels fall steadily since 2000. According to the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, the surface dropped to 1,040ft (316m) above sea level past week - considerably beneath the previous low recorded in July 2022. The reservoir lies within Clark County, where much of the area is classified as experiencing moderate drought by the U.S. Drought Monitor. Experts note that drought conditions have intensified in recent years, a trend they attribute to climate change. Persistent high summer temperatures have reduced water levels in rivers and lakes worldwide, occasionally exposing hidden artifacts. Similar discoveries have emerged elsewhere. In Hungary, workers recovered the remains of two World War II German soldiers from the Danube River in Budapest earlier this month; alongside the bodies lay a largely intact Wehrmacht motorcycle. Additional wartime relics, including a fractured hull near Prahovo, Serbia, have surfaced in the Danube recently. In the United Kingdom, low water at a Rutland reservoir revealed the foundations of the former village of Nether Hambleton, which was razed and flooded to create the water body.
