Authorities ID Burning Man festival attendee who died in ambulance

The Washoe County medical examiner’s office has identified the Burning Man festival attendee who died while being transported for medical care. Armando Ramirez, 51, of Truckee, California, died Friday in an ambulance en route from the event. Washoe County spokeswoman Bethany Drysdale conveyed the information in a Tuesday email. The medical examiner’s bureau released Ramirez’s name a day after Pershing County Sheriff Jerry Allen stated that an unidentified individual had died “in transit” to a Reno hospital. An autopsy was performed at the examiner’s office, and Ramirez’s cause and manner of death remain pending further testing, Drysdale said. She added that foul play is not suspected in Ramirez’s death. Ramirez is one of three people reported to have died during this year’s Burning Man festival. Sampson Tshombe was pronounced dead by a physician on festival grounds on Thursday, and Craigh Mann was found dead in a trailer on Saturday. Festival officials had previously announced Mann’s death, noting he was 60 years old. The Burning Man Project indicated Tshombe was in his mid‑50s. Sheriff Allen said Monday that foul play is not suspected in either Tshombe’s or Mann’s death.
