Afghan Boxer Arrested in Greece After Scottish Woman’s Body Found in Suitcase A 26‑year‑old Afghan national, Sharif Ahmadzai, is due to appear before an Athens court on Wednesday in connection with the death of Elisabeth Jane Ross, a 38‑year‑old Scottish woman whose body was found inside a suitcase in an abandoned building in the Kypseli district of Athens on 18 July, several days after she was reported missing. Ahmadzai, who describes himself as a champion boxer, arrived in Greece as a refugee and now lives in the capital with his American wife and their child. He left Afghanistan after being orphaned at the age of 15. His father, a commander in the Afghan army, was shot and killed, while his mother and siblings were killed by a suicide bomber in Kabul. He travelled to Greece via Iran and Turkey, a route confirmed by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), and was first accommodated in a refugee camp on the island of Lesbos. It was there that he met his future wife and subsequently converted to Christianity. Together they established the Love Every Nation Athens foundation to assist other refugees. It is thought that he met Elisabeth Jane Ross through that charity.
