Champions Northampton to open Prem season against Newcastle

Champions Northampton will launch the 2026‑27 Premiership season against Newcastle Red Bulls on the opening weekend. The Saints, having secured the trophy for the second time in three seasons after defeating Exeter in June, begin their campaign at home on Friday, 25 September. Meanwhile, the Chiefs host their first fixture with Gloucester scheduled to travel to Sandy Park on Saturday. Across the opening round, Harlequins meet Bath at home on Friday, Sale host Bristol on Saturday evening, and Leicester face Saracens in the sole Sunday match. The Premiership final is set for Saturday, 19 June 2027 at Allianz Stadium, Twickenham. The campaign will incorporate a series of breaks to accommodate international windows. After five rounds spread over six weeks from September into October, a four‑week Premiership pause in November will allow for the autumn Nations Championship fixtures. European competition resumes in December, featuring four Premiership rounds across six weeks leading into January, before a ten‑week league hiatus in February and March for the Six Nations. This season also marks the formal removal of promotion and relegation from the division. No club has been relegated from the Premiership or promoted from the Championship since Saracens in 2020 and 2021; the change, approved in February, reflects the league’s shift toward a franchise‑based model.
