Coach ejected as Aces suffer costly loss to Dream
Coach Becky Hammon was ejected during Tuesday's 97-82 loss to the Atlanta Dream at Michelob Ultra Arena after a confrontation with an official over uncalled fouls on A'ja Wilson. Wilson finished with 27 points, 14 rebounds and several blocks.
Hammon's removal came midway through the second quarter. After receiving her first technical foul, she headed toward half court while being restrained by Aces staff and Wilson, then was assessed a second technical and ejected.
Following Hammon's departure, the Dream launched a 10-2 surge, outscoring Las Vegas 28-16 in the period. The Aces had managed only four points in the fourth quarter prior to the ejection.
Angel Reese and Allisha Gray each contributed 21 points for Atlanta, combining for 16 rebounds and seven steals. Their effort helped the Dream keep a playoff spot out of reach for Las Vegas with seven regular-season games remaining. Reese has reached the 20-point mark in seven of her last eleven games, including a 23-point, 12-rebound double-double in the teams' previous meeting in Atlanta.
Although Las Vegas held Gray to seven points on August 3, she shot approximately 50 percent from the field on Tuesday, adding two three-pointers and three assists.
The defeat snapped the Aces' seven-game winning streak versus the Dream. Las Vegas now sits fourth in the WNBA standings, half a game behind Indiana and one game ahead of Atlanta.
