A drone strike carried out by Sudan's Rapid Support Forces killed 41 people near the Ethiopian border in the Blue Nile state, a rights organization reported. Emergency Lawyers said the attack hit a displacement camp in Abu Shandi on Friday. The UN Office for the Co-ordination of Humanitarian Affairs declared it was "appalled by horrifying reports" and noted that early indications pointed to women and children comprising most of the victims. Since 2023, the Sudanese armed forces and the RSF have been engaged in a protracted power struggle that has claimed hundreds of thousands of lives and forced more than 14 million civilians from their homes, creating one of the world's severest humanitarian emergencies, with millions requiring medical assistance. Government troops hold much of the central and eastern regions, while the RSF, based in western Darfur, also administers parts of the south. Both parties have faced allegations of employing drone strikes in the conflict. Ocha added that the area struck on Friday had been "under sustained atttack in caller weeks, displacing thousands of civilians and exposing galore much to sedate harm".
