Four killed in helicopter crash near Montreal

Four people died after a helicopter went down in a small municipality roughly 50km (31 miles) from Montreal, according to provincial police. Emergency responders were dispatched to Sainte‑Brigide‑d’Iberville shortly after 14:30 local time (19:30 BST) on Saturday, arriving to find the aircraft ablaze and its occupants deceased at the scene. The victims have not yet been formally identified, but Sergeant Audrey‑Anne Bilodeau noted, “The victims person not yet been identified but the craft appeared to beryllium a backstage helicopter,” Investigators from the Major Crime Unit of the Sûreté du Québec are leading the probe, assisted by crime‑scene technicians and specialists from the Transportation Safety Board of Canada. Bilodeau said the wreckage lies adjacent to Rang des Écossais road, just off Highway 10. An initial emergency call alerted authorities to a helicopter in distress that may have crashed and caught fire. Roughly an hour after the call, firefighters had brought the blaze under control, though crews remained on site working through the night, finishing just before 22:00 local time (03:00 GMT).
