Giants QB Jaxson Dart’s knee injury worse than expected; may miss remainder of season

New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart’s knee injury, suffered on Monday night’s 28-6 loss to the Los Angeles Rams, is now viewed as more severe than the initial evaluation suggested, raising the possibility that he will miss the rest of the 2026 season. The incident occurred on February 10, 2025, during the Giants’ opening possession when Rams defenders Byron Young and Josaiah Stewart struck Dart as he attempted a deep pass; his left knee bent awkwardly, forcing him to remain on the field before walking to the sideline and entering the medical tent. Initial X‑rays showed no fracture, and early examinations pointed to a possible sprained medial collateral ligament, which had fostered optimism that the injury would not be season‑ending. Additional testing conducted on Tuesday altered that outlook. Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reported that Dart could miss the remainder of the season, while ESPN noted that the team is confronting the prospect of season‑ending knee surgery. ESPN’s Adam Schefter similarly reported that the injury was worse than originally thought and that season‑ending status is under consideration. The Giants have not issued an official diagnosis or timetable for Dart’s return. Dart completed three of five passes for 20 yards before leaving the game. Veteran quarterback Jameis Winston took over, finishing 11 of 27 for 111 yards with an interception as the offense struggled against Los Angeles.
