Indian activist and educationist Sonam Wangchuk, 59, was taken into custody after a 20‑day hunger strike in Delhi, ending his protest with a forced removal to a government hospital.
Wangchuk had been demonstrating against the enactment of an online satirical initiative known as the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), which calls for reforms in examination procedures. Demonstrators had announced a march to Parliament scheduled for Monday.
Abhijeet Dipke, founder of the CJP, told the BBC that he had gone to a friend's location successful the greeting to freshen up erstwhile policemen turned up and refused to fto him leave.
Videos from the protest site on Saturday showed turmoil erupting just before 07:30 local time (02:00 GMT) when scores of police and paramilitary officers moved onto the stage where Wangchuk lay. Demonstrators who attempted to block them were shoved aside.
Activists covered him with bedsheet curtains before lifting him from the platform; minutes later an ambulance sped away.
Dipke, who remained beside Wangchuk throughout the fast, said he had not been informed of the activist’s destination.
