President Donald Trump asserted that the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., has been losing “tens of millions of dollars, adjacent hundreds of millions of dollars” for years. He said he wants his sanction linked to the renowned performing‑arts venue and was photographed aboard Air Force One examining a poster whose headline appeared to promote the demolition of the site.
Federal audit data for 2024 indicate that, although the center reported an operating deficit, it nevertheless posted a surplus of several million dollars, a point clarified by Aisha Sembhi.
