Jackie and her partner, Shadow, had been watched by millions of people over the years through the Big Bear Eagle Nest Cam.

Jackie, a bald eagle that gained fame as an online star in California, died on Monday after weeks of veterinary treatment. The bird had been under the care of the Ojai Raptor Center following an attack by other eagles. Underlying health problems, including anemia and weight loss, complicated her recovery. "Over the past several days, her condition continued to deteriorate despite intensive care and the combined efforts of our veterinary team and consulting specialists," the Ojai Raptor Center said in a statement. A livestream of the Big Bear Valley nest shared by Jackie and her mate, Shadow, has attracted hundreds of thousands of viewers. The Big Bear Eagle Nest Cam, operated by the nonprofit Friends of Big Bear Valley in California, built a dedicated audience, and Jackie was frequently seen in the area since hatching in the spring of 2012. According to the Friends of Big Bear Valley website, Jackie and Shadow have been mates since 2018. "Our team is heartbroken. It has been an incredible privilege to care for her," the Ojai Raptor Center said. "We know this loss will be deeply felt by the many thousands of people around the world who have followed her journey, hoped alongside us, prayed for her, and supported the people caring for her." "We are working closely with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife and will provide a more detailed update including further information on her treatments and test results." Jackie’s remains have been transferred to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, the Ojai Raptor Center confirmed.
