Los Angeles Chargers center Tyler Biadasz will miss an unspecified amount of time after sustaining damage to his anterior cruciate ligament and additional injuries to his left knee during Tuesday’s session with the San Francisco 49ers. The 28‑year‑old veteran remained on the field while trainers attended to him before being carted off because he could not bear weight on the injured limb.
The incident occurred on an 11‑on‑11 play when 49ers defensive tackle Sebastian Valdez collapsed into Biadasz’s lower body. Initial concerns about his availability for the upcoming season were heightened after follow‑up examinations confirmed ligament damage. Medical staff have yet to determine the full grade of the ACL injury, leaving the possibility open that Biadasz could be ruled out for the 2026 season, although a significant absence is already anticipated and a season‑ending loss cannot be dismissed.
Los Angeles signed Biadasz in March to a three‑year, $30 million contract after he spent the previous two campaigns with Washington. A 2022 Pro Bowl honoree with the Dallas Cowboys, he has started 84 of 92 regular‑season games in his career and was brought in to supply seasoned stability at center behind quarterback Justin Herbert.
With Biadasz sidelined, rookie Jake Slaughter—a second‑round selection from Florida—is expected to step into the starting center role. Slaughter moved into the position immediately after Tuesday’s injury, and the Chargers are now assessing their remaining interior offensive‑line alternatives.
The setback represents a considerable blow to a team that had counted on Biadasz as a key component of its revamped offensive front. Editorial credit: dean bertoncelj / Shutterstock.com.
