A federal grand jury indicted Barry Laurence Spell on Wednesday for the Sept. 17 robbery of a Citibank branch at 3900 Paradise Road. Spell, who has three prior bank robbery convictions, is in custody and scheduled for arraignment on Oct. 13.

According to a criminal complaint, the robbery occurred around 1:10 p.m. when a man presented a note to a teller claiming he had a gun and demanding all $100 and $50 bills within 10 seconds. When the initial amount was insufficient, he asked for more money and left with $620, according to witness statements.

The robber was described as wearing a black Boston Red Sox baseball cap, a black long-sleeve T-shirt, cargo shorts, black shoes, and carrying a red duffel bag. FBI investigators used security video from the bank, a nearby hotel, a construction site, and the Sphere to track the suspect's movements.

Investigators found the red duffel bag at the construction site containing the cap, shirt, and a black beanie made by a Las Vegas company. Video from a cab taken by the robber helped identify Spell, and a representative from the beanie manufacturer identified him as a former employee.

Spell's criminal record includes bank robbery convictions in 1993, 1998, and 2014. He was sentenced to 151 months in federal prison for the 2014 robbery followed by three years of supervised release.
