Las Vegas sheriff: Slain officer ‘ambushed’ by armed suspect — WATCH LIVE August 5, 2026 - 10:30 am (updated 10:36 am) Metropolitan Police Department Sheriff Kevin McMahill provided an update Wednesday regarding the officer killed Tuesday in the line of duty. Officer Austin Abdelnabi, 30, died Tuesday after a gunbattle with an armed suspect in the east Las Vegas Valley. McMahill said the suspect ambushed Abdelnabi. McMahill said he wanted to ensure Abdelnabi’s family across the nation was notified by the department before releasing his name to the public. The gunman was also killed. This is a developing story.
