The 'Welcome to Las Vegas' sign will glow yellow, orange, and turquoise this month in honor of Indigenous Peoples' Day. The special lighting is set to be unveiled at a ceremony on Monday, Oct. 12, at 4 p.m. at the landmark.
The lighting honors the history, cultures, and contributions of Indigenous people. Barbara Hartzell, a member of the Chemehuevi Indian Tribe and executive director of NATIVE Alliance, said, 'There is so much joy in being Indigenous, in seeing our cultures carried forward, our communities growing stronger, and our people continuing to shape Nevada. Today, we honor those who came before us by celebrating the Indigenous people who are here, thriving, leading, and building what comes next.'
Traditional dancers will perform after the lights are turned on. The event is part of broader efforts to recognize Indigenous heritage in the region.
