LIV Golf has cancelled its Team Championships, which were slated for Michigan, after weeks of speculation, saying it must concentrate on “building its next chapter.” The league had widely been expected to call off the Aug. 27‑30 event, given that players such as Tyrrell Hatton opted to compete in the British Masters over the same dates and ticket sales had ceased. Confirmation arrived on Monday via a LIV Golf statement outlining schedule adjustments; consequently, this week’s tournament in Indianapolis will serve as the season’s finale and also function as a team competition.
The breakaway circuit faces an uncertain outlook after Saudi Arabia withdrew its financial backing in April. LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil, who recently announced that new investors had been secured, said: “By concluding the play now, we can put our full resources behind what comes next and support the operational rigor this transition demands.”
He added: “We are reimagining LIV Golf as a fundamentally new league owned by the players and anchored in a sustainable business model, with an evolved fan experience built for the markets where the sport is growing fastest across the globe and the input of world‑class partners.”
O’Neil continued: “Professional golf is more unified today than at any point since we launched, creating a real opportunity to grow the game together.”
Finally, he noted: “Indianapolis will be a fitting finale for the league as fans have known it and the starting point for what we believe it can become.”
