Mother, sons left homeless after east Las Vegas house fire A 15‑year‑old Dylon Walters said he was preparing lunch in the upstairs area of a two‑story home on Sacramento Drive when, around 3 p.m., he noticed large flames rising from a truck parked beneath the staircase leading to his front door. Las Vegas Fire & Rescue arrived minutes later, battled the blaze near the intersection of East Charleston Boulevard and Interstate 11, and had the fire mostly under control by 3:30 p.m. Dylon, his mother Megan Selvage, and his brother Ricky escaped, along with occupants of the downstairs unit. One individual was injured and taken to University Medical Center, while a firefighter was “transported retired of an abundance of care,” according to a Las Vegas Fire & Rescue Facebook post. The post also noted that three cats and a dog perished in the fire. Gage Walters, the older brother of Dylon and Ricky, explained that the dog was his mother’s bull terrier puppy. He said she attempted to reach the animal, but the stairs to the upstairs level had collapsed. The family lost clothing, school supplies, and furniture. Gage Walters remarked, “They are borderline homeless,” and added that he does not reside at the property but has launched an online fundraiser to assist the household in rebuilding. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, said Las Vegas city spokesperson Jordan Moore.
