A Nye County deputy was pursuing a black Honda SUV that was traveling as fast as 104 mph when the chase turned deadly. While deputies were setting up spike strips, the suspect’s vehicle crashed and the driver, identified as James Weaver, ran on foot after the incident.

Police say the motorcyclist, 43‑year‑old Timothy Dorn, had stopped at a stop sign with his left turn signal on. As Weaver’s SUV approached the intersection at roughly 90 to 100 mph, he drove around Dorn and collided with the left side of the motorcycle. The report noted, “Due to James’s speed and reckless driving, James was unable to avoid a collision.” Dorn was air‑lifted to University Medical Center in Las Vegas, where he later died.

After a foot pursuit, deputies apprehended Weaver, who was found with a crystal‑like substance that tested presumptively positive for methamphetamine and a white powder that tested presumptively positive for fentanyl. He now faces charges that include reckless driving resulting in death, possession of a controlled substance and DUI with death.

Friends and neighbors have rallied around Dorn’s family, with a GoFundMe set up by his mother‑in‑law to cover cremation and everyday expenses. The incident is part of a broader investigation by the Nye County Sheriff’s Office into recent police‑related crashes.
