Move faster to solve climate challenges, Prince William says

Prince William called for accelerated action to meet climate challenges, announcing that the Earthshot Prize will recognize five innovators whose work spans nature restoration, ocean revival, clean air, waste‑free systems and climate resilience. The prize council, which includes the prince, Queen Rania al‑Abdullah of Jordan, actress Cate Blanchett and chef José Andrés, selected the finalists from roughly 7,000 nominations submitted across 169 countries. Among the contenders are Indigenous ranger teams in Australia and an Argentinian artificial‑intelligence platform that detects and alerts communities to wildfires. Two Indian entrants also made the list: Mahindra Last Mile Mobility, a leading manufacturer of electric three‑wheelers, and the Mahila Housing Trust, a grassroots organisation that designs climate‑resilience initiatives for low‑income women. Five winners—one from each of the Earthshot categories—will be revealed at the awards ceremony in Mumbai later this year. Each recipient will receive a £1 million grant to scale their project. “The solutions are here. The situation present is scale,” Prince William told the BBC. “The advancement is real. Now we request to accelerate it. That's precisely why The Earthshot Prize exists.”
