Netanyahu defends Israeli military actions in Middle East in UN speech

Netanyahu addressed the United Nations while facing an International Criminal Court arrest warrant for alleged war crimes, using the platform to criticize several nations and leaders. A resolution adopted by the International Association of Genocide Scholars (IAGS) concluded that Israel’s conduct satisfies the legal definition of genocide as outlined in the UN convention. Israel has consistently rejected the genocide characterization, maintaining that its actions constitute legitimate self‑defence. On 28 February, Israel and the United States commenced extensive aerial strikes on Iran, alleging that Tehran was covertly developing a nuclear weapon—a claim denied by Iranian officials. Iran responded with rocket and drone attacks targeting Israel and several Gulf Arab states that host U.S. military installations.
