Peters hits for 1st career cycle, Burke pitches 7 strong innings as White Sox dismantle A’s 14-1
CHICAGO — Tristan Peters recorded his first career cycle, Sean Burke worked seven innings of one‑run ball and the Chicago White Sox exploded for eight runs in the seventh inning to defeat the Athletics 14‑1 on Friday night.
Peters doubled in the third inning, drove in a run with a single in the fifth, and collected two hits in the seventh — a two‑run home run and an RBI triple. He became the seventh White Sox player to hit for the cycle and the first since José Abreu accomplished the feat in 2017.
Burke (6‑4) struck out nine batters while allowing only four hits. Since June 18, he has surrendered just six earned runs over 32 innings of work.
Former White Sox right‑hander Aaron Civale (5‑7) took the loss for Oakland after giving up four runs on six hits in 2⅓ innings.
Tyler Soderstrom plated the Athletics’ lone run in the seventh inning with his 14th home run of the season.
The Athletics are slated to relocate to Las Vegas in 2028, when they will open play in a new ballpark under construction on the Strip.
Looking ahead, Athletics left‑hander Gage Jump (3‑3, 3.77 ERA) is set to oppose White Sox right‑hander Erick Fedde (4‑6, 4.34) on Saturday.
