Emma Raducanu will miss the US Open to continue her recovery from a stress fracture. The 23-year-old British No. 1 sustained the injury to her right wrist during grass-court play and later opted to withdraw from Wimbledon. The 2021 US Open champion will not compete in this year’s tournament at Flushing Meadows, which gets under way on 23 August. The choice followed her most recent discussions with her medical team. She had only just returned to action wearing a protective boot. Last summer Raducanu won her first matches at the US Open since her surprise breakthrough, but the preceding 12 months have been hampered by ongoing physical problems. A foot injury disrupted her pre‑season preparation before she spent 2 and a half months away from the tour with a post-viral illness after first feeling unwell in early February. She returned for the close of the clay-court season having re‑engaged Andrew Richardson, the coach who steered her to the US Open title, yet their time together on court has remained limited. Raducanu enjoyed 1 of the strongest stretches of her career by reaching her biggest final since New York at Queen's Club in June, but she has not played since.
