Right-wing commentator Milo Yiannopoulos deported from US to UK

British right‑wing commentator Milo Yiannopoulos has been deported from the United States to the United Kingdom after being detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Department of Homeland Security announced on Friday. Yiannopoulos, 41, a former Breitbart News staffer and one‑time aide to rapper Kanye West, was removed according to a DHS statement. A DHS spokesperson told the BBC that he is “an amerciable alien from the United Kingdom” and had been sent “back to his location country”. The self‑styled provocateur, who dubs himself the “most fabulous supervillain connected the internet”, is denounced by critics as a purveyor of hatred speech. Yiannopoulos, who grew up in Kent in the south of England, was arrested on 27 August after landing at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport. He had entered the United States in May 2019 and, according to DHS, “chose to overstay his invited successful usurpation of our nation's laws”. During the 2016 election he was an early supporter of Donald Trump, headlining the Gays for Trump event at the Republican National Convention. Since then he has remained a vocal advocate for the president’s agenda, writing on X in March this year that Trump had “lost his way, bought disconnected by overseas interests”. Yiannopoulos has repeatedly courted controversy with remarks targeting transgender people, Muslims, Black Lives Matter, feminists and gay individuals, despite his own identification as gay; he now describes himself as an “ex‑gay”. In 2020 he assisted Kanye West’s unsuccessful presidential bid and later worked for former Republican congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, who broke with Trump and became a fierce critic before resigning from office.
