Royal Mail has announced plans to cut 2,500 head‑office positions by the end of 2027, affecting roughly 2 percent of its 131,000‑strong workforce. Front‑line postal employees, including posties and drivers, will be excluded from the restructuring.
The company said the reductions will be achieved through voluntary redundancies and staff opting to leave, aiming to improve efficiency.
“These projected changes region duplication and let america to put further successful the work we present for our customers,” said main enforcement Alistair Cochrane.
Royal Mail has repeatedly fallen short of its first‑ and second‑class mail delivery targets, resulting in fines from the regulator in recent years. At the same time, declining letter volumes have prompted the group to argue that its Universal Service Obligation—requiring six‑day‑a‑week delivery to every UK address—is outdated and requires reform.
