Teens who died in car which entered river named

Northumbria Police have identified the three teenagers who died when a car entered the River Wear near Sunderland as Jackson Duke, 17, Luke Etheridge, 16, and Zara Shaw, 16. The force said a white Audi A3 left the road at Panns Bank beside Wearmouth Bridge, Sunderland, and entered the water shortly before 13:30 BST on Tuesday. Four occupants were in the vehicle at the time. A 17‑year‑old male who survived the crash has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. Police added that the investigation into the circumstances leading to the vehicle entering the water, including who was driving, remains ongoing. Jackson and Luke were residents of Sunderland; Zara lived in Houghton‑le‑Spring.
