Temperatures forecast to hit 25C but heatwave chances fall

High pressure is building over the United Kingdom, bringing more settled conditions and brighter skies. Following a chilly start on Monday morning, with sunshine and light winds across much of England and Wales, temperatures are expected to rise into the low 20s (°C). Although considerable cloud will linger over Scotland and Northern Ireland, the region will also warm, with highs reaching between 18 and 22°C. The air will feel more humid again. When this humid air combines with light winds across England and Wales on Tuesday, the day will begin misty and foggy, with areas of low cloud affecting some locations. Once the sun breaks through, conditions will feel warmer still. Forecasts suggest temperatures could peak at around 24 or 25°C in southeast England, while many other parts of England, Wales, Northern Ireland and eastern Scotland should see readings in the low 20s Celsius. The actual high will depend on how much cloud clears, allowing strong September sunshine to reach the ground. 2026 has already become a record‑breaking year for the number of days above 25°C; last week’s total surpassed the previous mark of 89 days set in 1959.
