Digital marquees along Las Vegas Boulevard now display the message, “When watching a performance or taking a photo, tipping is not required,” followed by, “If you feel harassed, look for a nearby police officer or call 911,” according to Clark County officials who say the signs are for public safety.
The warning comes after a viral incident outside Planet Hollywood involving a couple from Charlotte, North Carolina. Eric Richards and Merihazel Walters paid $20 for photos with two showgirls, Jennifer Ortiz and Magdellena Romero, but the performers demanded additional money, with Ortiz allegedly asking for $60 to $180 before confronting the couple.
Walters reported that Ortiz shouted profanity and struck Richards, while Romero tackled Walters and hit her head with a closed fist. Police surveillance footage and video from Planet Hollywood matched the couple’s account, and Richards was left with a two‑inch gash on his forehead. Authorities are urging visitors to rely on nearby officers or 911 if they encounter harassment.
