Toone and Kelly miss out on Lionesses squad

Manchester United midfielder Ella Toone, 27, and Arsenal forward Chloe Kelly, 28, have been left out of England’s squad for the forthcoming World Cup qualifiers next month. Chelsea forward Aggie Beever‑Jones, Arsenal duo Lotte Wubben‑Moy and Taylor Hinds also failed to make the 23‑player list. Captain Leah Williamson returns after missing June’s 4‑0 defeat by Spain and the 3‑0 victory over Ukraine. She is joined by uncapped Chelsea midfielder Lexi Potter, 20, who has started three of Chelsea’s opening four matches and was a standout performer in their 1‑0 win over Arsenal on Sunday. Eighteen‑year‑old Erica Meg Parkinson, who has impressed since linking up with the North Carolina Courage this summer, receives her first senior call‑up. London City Lionesses forward Freya Godfrey and Liverpool defender Grace Fisk complete the uncapped selections. England will face Greece in a two‑leg tie. The first leg takes place in Crete on Friday, 9 October at 17:30 BST, with the second leg set for Leicester on Tuesday, 13 October at 19:30 BST. Victory over the Greeks would see the Lionesses progress to the second round of the play‑offs, where they will contest a place at next summer’s Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
