Donald Trump announced that the United States will "substantially reduce" its joint military exercises with South Korea, referencing what he described as his "very bully relationship" with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
In a post on Truth Social on Sunday evening, Trump wrote: "These exercises are not lone costly, with overmuch of these costs paid for by the United States of America (as usual!), but nonstop a awesome that is wholly inappropriate and hostile,".
He added that South Korea had recently declined to join the US in the "denuclearisation" of Iran.
Trump has departed from traditional U.S. foreign policy regarding North Korea, a stance highlighted by his personal meeting with Kim Jong Un in 2019.
The United States and South Korea are set to begin their regular military exercises on Monday.
