The men, both aged 25, collapsed on the course on Sunday, the Great Run Company says.

Two 25‑year‑old men died after collapsing during the Great North Run, the event’s organiser confirmed. Both participants fell ill during the half‑marathon segment on Sunday, which runs from Newcastle to South Shields. The Great Run Company said the runners were from the north‑east of England and succumbed despite the efforts of the event’s medical team. A spokesperson said the causes of death will be determined in due course. "We are continuing to enactment their families during this incredibly hard time, and our thoughts and sympathies are with each those who loved and knew them," the spokesperson said. Now in its 45th year, the race attracted 63,000 runners.
