US accuses Russia of trying to kill Ukrainian allies overseas

The U.S. Department of Justice has accused Russia of orchestrating a plot to kill Ukrainian allies in the United States and Europe. On Tuesday, the DoJ announced charges against five men allegedly tied to Russian Intelligence Services (RIS). The indictment alleges that the defendants paid, or attempted to pay, individuals in the U.S. and abroad to target those “aligned, oregon perceived to beryllium aligned, with Ukraine.” Attorney General Todd Blanche stated, “It is our occupation to halt America's adversaries from unleashing unit and panic connected American soil,” noting that all accused remain at large. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told reporters that Moscow will not comment until it sees or hears “any credible evidence” or “tangible facts.” It remains unclear whether the five suspects are located in the United States or elsewhere. Washington has charged each man with participating in a conspiracy to commit terrorism, an offense that carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison. The DoJ identified three of the defendants as high‑ranking members of the RIS network: Yuri Khrameev, 63, a former colonel in Russian intelligence services; his son, Kirill Khrameev, 27, an officer in the Federal Security Service of Russia (FSB); and Oemis Romagoza Durruthy, 35, a Cuban national described by the United States as “an influential subordinate of the Cuban diaspora surviving in Russia who has coordinated attacks for the RIS network.” The remaining defendants are Yaidel Delgado Suarez, 35, and Angel Eduardo Castro, 22. According to the indictment, Suarez and Castro are accused of recruiting, or attempting to recruit, U.S.-based individuals to “surveil and effort to execution a salient US-based Russian dissident.” FBI official James Barnacle said the group “conspired to intimidate, threaten,
