US launches more strikes on Iran as state media reports explosions

American forces resumed strikes against Iran on Tuesday, according to a statement from US Central Command. The command accused the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of carrying out "recent attempted attacks" against commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and against "American work members deployed to the region." Centcom said the strikes on IRGC targets began at 12:00 ET (16:00 GMT). Iranian state media reported that the country’s deputy official for information said four projectiles had struck the counties of Chabahar and Konarak. The IRGC warned that the United States would regret the strikes, while President Donald Trump warned that any Iranian retaliation would be met with a response "a much harder and higher level." The latest action follows the first known US strikes on Iran since late July, when forces hit two rocket launchers on Larak Island in the Strait earlier this week. Iran’s semi‑official Tasnim news agency reported that explosions were also heard on Qeshm Island on Tuesday, as well as in Konarak and Bandar Abbas. Trump described the operation as "large and powerful," saying it was a reaction to Iran’s launch of eight missiles at a US military base in Jordan, and claimed Tehran had "failed" to lay sea mines in the Strait. When asked about the possibility of further attacks if Iran retaliated, Trump added: "It will not be the biggest onslaught of them all, that is waiting in the wings and, when it is over, there will be very little left of the Islamic Republic of Iran." IRGC spokesman Hossein Mohebbi said that terrible punishment awaited the United States and that the state would regret the caller attacks.
