5 injured, 1 taken by helicopter, after hit‑and‑run involving CCFD vehicles near Jean
Five people were injured in a pair of crashes near Jean early Friday morning, with one victim airlifted to a trauma center. The Nevada Highway Patrol reported that troopers responded to an initial collision at 12:16 a.m. on southbound Interstate 15 at mile marker 7. That first crash involved three sedan vehicles.
A second collision occurred at the same location at 12:36 a.m. Authorities said the second incident was a hit‑and‑run in which a fleeing vehicle struck a Clark County Fire and Rescue ambulance, a CCFD rescue truck, and a Chevrolet Malibu that was already on the scene. The hit‑and‑run driver left the area immediately.
Nevada Highway Patrol, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police, and the California Highway Patrol launched an air and ground search for the suspect vehicle, which remains outstanding.
Five individuals were removed from the second crash site. One was transported by Life Flight helicopter, while the other four were taken to local hospitals by ground ambulance.
A significant diesel spill resulted when the CCFD rescue truck sustained damage in the collision. All southbound I‑15 traffic was diverted onto the Jean/Exit 12 off‑ramp while investigators processed the scene.
