Arsenal will be without defender William Saliba for the opening fixture of their Premier League title defence, the match against newly promoted Coventry City. Saliba, the France international centre‑back, has been ruled out for an extended period after sustaining a back injury during the World Cup.
Netherlands right‑back Jurrien Timber, who missed two months towards the end of the previous season with an ankle problem, is also struggling to regain full fitness.
Liverpool retain a contractual option to match any bid for defender Quansah, a clause included when he transferred to a Bundesliga club last year. The club, however, is not expected to activate that right.
Quansah was part of England’s World Cup squad that reached the semi‑finals. He started three games at right‑back but was dismissed in the last‑16 encounter with Mexico, which ruled him out of the quarter‑final victory over Norway and the semi‑final loss to Argentina.
In the 2023‑24 season with Bayer Leverkusen, Quansah made 44 appearances and scored five goals.
