Assemblymember Joe Dalia, D-Henderson, announced his bid for state treasurer this morning, setting up a potential race against former Republican Congressional candidate Drew Johnson in 2026.
If elected, the freshman assemblymember would replace fellow Democrat Zach Conine, who is running for attorney general in 2026. Dalia’s campaign website highlights concerns over the state’s languishing education and lack of economic diversity.
“We’re headed for uncertain economic times and in that uncertainty, the role of the Treasurer in managing state resources will be vital,” Dalia wrote on LinkedIn. “We need fresh, innovative ideas and policies … so we can better fund education and other critical services without raising taxes on working families.
During his first session, Dalia pushed for the creation of a business-specific court to compete with states like Delaware. That idea was picked up by the state Supreme Court’s chief justice in May.
As state treasurer, Dalia would play a more direct role in attracting new businesses to the state.
Dalia’s website also calls for “doubl(ing) down” on investment in housing, placing the blame on Nevada’s housing crisis on “out-of-state corporations” buying up homes.
Before joining the assembly, Dalia was involved on the legal side of Silicon Valley, most recently working as an attorney for Meta. He announced that he was leaving the company Tuesday.
Dalia graduated from the University of Michigan’s law school in 2017.
