The Athletics are advancing their relocation to Las Vegas with a ceremonial groundbreaking scheduled for June 23 at their future Las Vegas Strip stadium site, officials said today.
The $1.75 billion stadium, designed to accommodate 33,000 fans, is slated to open in time for the 2028 season. It will be built on site of the former Tropicana resort, which was demolished to make way for the new venue.
Until their Las Vegas home is complete, the Athletics will continue to play at the Triple-A ballpark in West Sacramento, California.
The franchise departed Oakland following the 2024 season due to their aging stadium and unsuccessful efforts to secure public funding for a new facility in the Bay Area.
For their Las Vegas project, the team secured $380 million in public financing, which includes $180 million in transferable tax credits from Nevada.
