Bishop Gorman football to appear on ESPN against Florida powerhouse

Bishop Gorman’s football team will appear on ESPN when it takes on Columbus (Fla.) on Aug. 29, the network announced Thursday. The game is set for 11 a.m. PT as part of the Broward County football showcase hosted at St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Fort Lauderdale. In ESPN’s preseason Top 25, the Gaels rank No. 3, behind No. 1 Buford (Ga.) and No. 2 St. John Bosco (Calif.). St. John Bosco and Bishop Gorman hold the No. 1 and No. 2 spots, respectively, in the MaxPreps poll and are scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. on Aug. 21 at Gorman’s campus, with the contest streamed on MaxPreps’ YouTube channel. The Gaels open their season hosting Losee in a 5A league game at 7 p.m. on Aug. 14. Their remaining nonleague slate includes a trip to Lone Peak (Utah) on Sept. 4 and a visit to Mater Dei (Calif.) on Sept. 18; Mater Dei is listed at No. 8 in ESPN’s preseason rankings. Columbus High School is the alma mater of Las Vegas Raiders rookie Fernando Mendoza.
