Brian Serven hits 1st MLB homer since 2022 and Gage Jump pitches Athletics to win over Red Sox

West Sacramento, Calif. — Brian Serven broke a nearly two‑year homer drought with a two‑run double to center field in the seventh inning, lifting the Athletics to a 4‑3 victory over the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday night. Serven, batting ninth, delivered the hit that gave Oakland a 3‑0 lead and chased Red Sox starter Jake Bennett (6‑4). It was Serven’s seventh career home run and his first since August 21, 2022, when he homered for the Colorado Rockies against the San Francisco Giants. Gage Jump started for Oakland and worked six scoreless innings, allowing three hits while walking four and striking out seven to improve to 4‑6. Offensively, Tommy White went 4‑for‑4 and scored twice. Henry Bolte added an RBI single early, and pinch‑hitter Lawrence Butler drove in an insurance run with an RBI triple in the eighth. The Athletics had entered the game having lost three straight and five of their last six. Boston rallied in the ninth when Connor Wong launched a two‑run homer with two outs off Oakland reliever Hogan Harris. Despite the home run, Harris recorded his ninth save, striking out three in 1 ⅓ innings. Jake Bennett, the Red Sox starter, surrendered three runs on six hits with two walks and four strikeouts over 6 ⅓ frames.
