CCSD monitor found incompetent to stand trial on sex charges

Clark County School District field monitor Antonio Vaughn, 43, has been found incompetent to stand trial on sex‑related charges, according to court records. District Judge Christy Craig ruled on Friday that Vaughn is incapable of assisting counsel or understanding the allegations against him, which include lewdness with a child under 14, child abuse, contacting a pupil by means of authority for sex, luring a child and destroying or concealing evidence. Vaughn was arrested in April after police said he kissed a 13‑year‑old girl on the grounds of Schofield Middle School in Las Vegas and, on multiple occasions, had been warned against contacting students via social media. An Order of Commitment filed Tuesday stated that Vaughn was evaluated by two doctors, Greg Harder and Dodge Slagle, who concluded he is not competent, poses a danger to himself and others, and requires commitment to determine whether his competence can be restored. The court ordered Vaughn transferred to the custody of the Nevada Department of Human Services for detention and treatment. His criminal proceedings will be suspended while health officials assess whether his competency can be regained. The order did not specify where Vaughn would receive treatment. As of Tuesday morning, he remained in custody at the Clark County Detention Center, according to jail records. Vaughn, who began working for the district as a field monitor in 2018, was placed on unpaid leave after his arrest; the district later said he was fired in April. Court records show Vaughn is represented by attorney Jack Buchanan, who could not be reached for comment.
