Child among three killed in Russian missile attacks near Kyiv

At least three people, including a child, were killed in overnight Russian missile strikes near Kyiv, officials said. In the early hours of Saturday, missiles hit areas east of the capital and witnesses described powerful explosions just days after a broader barrage across Ukraine left 21 people dead. Falling debris damaged apartment buildings and vehicles, and a fire erupted at a separate structure, said Timur Tkachenko, head of the regional emergency medical service. Earlier in the week, Zelensky said delays in receiving anti‑ballistic systems from allies result in “horrific casualties and destruction,” asserting that a stronger interceptor capability “could have saved lives” in recent deadly assaults. He also noted that the provision of interceptors from partners had been “significantly reduced” this year. The strikes followed Ukrainian attacks on two oil refineries deep inside Russia and on Moscow‑linked vessels in the Black Sea, which Zelensky said aimed to curb oil revenues that Russia uses to “finance” its war in Ukraine. Recent mediation talks have collapsed, prompting an escalation of attacks by both sides.
