Community briefs: Henderson Hot Rod Days returns for its 7th year

Henderson Hot Rod Days returns for its seventh year to the Water Street District on Oct. 2 and 3. The free event will showcase more than 700 hot rods, muscle cars, street rods, trucks and motorcycles along Water Street throughout the two‑day celebration. Presented by the City of Henderson in partnership with the Boulder City Cruisin’ Association, activities run from 4‑10 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday at Water Street and Water Street Plaza, 240 S. Water St., Henderson. Live entertainment and DJs are scheduled throughout the weekend. Friday night’s headliner is Electric Avenue, The '80s MTV Experience, a rock cover band known for performing chart‑topping hits from the decade. Additional attractions include Car Show Bingo and Hot Rod Happy Hour, which offers special deals at participating Water Street District businesses. Downtown Summerlin’s Parade of Mischief kicks off Halloween festivities on Oct. 2, launching a series of free, family‑friendly Halloween events each Friday and Saturday evening through Oct. 24. Presented by Universal Horror Unleashed and produced by BestAgency, the parade steps off at 6 p.m. on Park Centre Drive at Downtown Summerlin, 1980 Festival Plaza Drive, Las Vegas. Parade dates are Oct. 2, 3, 9, 10, 16, 17, 23 and 24; there are no performances on Oct. 30 or 31. More than 60 local youth performers will take part, with floats and performances inspired by “Wicked,” Harry Potter, "Cruella," "Hocus Pocus,” “The Addams Family” and Día de los Muertos. The Palms will host its second annual Pow Wow Exhibition on Oct. 12, Indigenous Peoples’ Day, at Pearl Theater. Admission and parking are free. Two performances are set for 1:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., each preceded by a procession through the casino floor that opens at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m., respectively. Presented by the San Manuel Gaming & Hospitality Authority, a governmental instrumentality of the Yuhaaviatam of San Manuel Nation, the exhibition draws on a 30‑year powwow tradition rooted in the tribe’s Southern California heritage. The Palms remains the only resort in Las Vegas wholly owned and operated by a Native American tribe, having been acquired by the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians in December 2021 for $650 million. The program features Native singers, powwow dancers and drum groups, with participants expected from across Southern Nevada and the greater Southwest.
