Customers say the disruption to virtually all UK CrossCountry services is the "worst case scenario".

CrossCountry has suspended services on multiple UK routes after a power cut disrupted operations. The affected corridors include the main line between Manchester and Birmingham, which runs via Stoke‑on‑Trent, Coventry and Wolverhampton, as well as the Leeds‑York, Cheltenham‑Cardiff and Glasgow‑Edinburgh routes. Services to Plymouth and Penzance are also experiencing disruption, with passengers being directed to Great Western Railway operators for alternative travel. “We are moving intimately with applicable partners and will supply further updates as soon as possible,” a CrossCountry spokesperson said. Although the operator normally serves more than 100 stations, it indicated that the only segment anticipating a “near‑normal” level of service is the stretch between Peterborough, Cambridge and Stansted Airport. CrossCountry apologised to affected passengers and confirmed that tickets are being honoured by other train companies. Under the Delay Repay scheme, travellers whose journeys are delayed by 30 minutes or longer are eligible for compensation, while those who opt not to travel may claim a full refund. National Rail advised that customers could use London Underground services at no additional charge and could also travel on West Midlands Metro services between Wolverhampton and Birmingham New Street. Tickets purchased for CrossCountry travel on Sunday remain valid for use until Wednesday.
