The Eighth Judicial District Court announced Thursday that a mail scam involving counterfeit jury summons is on the rise in Las Vegas. Scammers are sending postcards that closely resemble the court’s official summons in an effort to trick recipients into responding or providing personal information.
The fraudulent summons often display a jury ID number, a group number, or even a counterfeit QR code to appear authentic. These elements are designed to mimic the format of the court’s legitimate jury postcards, making the scam harder to detect at first glance.
Court officials note several key differences. Legitimate jury postcards always direct recipients to a secure website for verification, list reporting dates that fall on regular business days, and include official court contact information. The fake notices lack these safeguards and may contain inaccurate or misleading details.
Residents who receive a jury summons by mail are urged to confirm its authenticity by visiting clarkcountycourts.us/departments/jury-services. If the notice does not match the official format or the website link is missing, individuals should contact the court directly before taking any further action.
