Funeral services announced for slain Metro officer Austin Abdelnabi

Funeral services have been announced for Metropolitan Police Department officer Austin 'Zade' Abdelnabi, who was killed in the line of duty. A work is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday at Central Church in Henderson, adjacent to East Russell Road and Boulder Highway, according to an obituary leafage posted by Palm Mortuary-Jones. Abdelnabi, 30, was shot and killed Tuesday after responding to a call about an intoxicated man brandishing a firearm in the 4500 block of East Tropicana Avenue, police said. Sheriff Kevin McMahill stated that Abdelnabi, a Marine veteran, was ambushed as he exited his vehicle. Police reported that officers located a suspect in the 5400 block of Mountain Vista Street, near Interstate 11 south of where the call originated. When officers approached, the suspect immediately opened fire, and at least one officer returned fire. Abdelnabi was transported to University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The suspect died at the scene. A vigil organized by the Injured Police Officers Fund is set for 7 p.m. Friday at Police Memorial Park, situated near West Cheyenne Avenue and the 215 Beltway.
