Future First Friday events in Las Vegas on hold after deadly shooting; discussions continue

First Friday, the monthly arts festival that has anchored the 18B Las Vegas Arts District for 24 years, is on hold while organizers work with the City of Las Vegas, law enforcement and other partners to "reorganize and reimagine" the event's future, according to a post on the festival's official social media page. No date for its return was announced.

The pause follows the Oct. 2 shooting near Charleston Boulevard and Main Street that killed 15-year-old Carth Onasi Jacobs-Rodgers, as identified by his family to FOX5. The suspect, 17-year-old Issac Manriquez, is being held without bail and faces charges as an adult.

"We extend our deepest sympathies to the family of the young person who was killed and to everyone who was affected, and remain devastated and heartbroken over this unacceptable tragedy," organizers said. They also acknowledged the impact on local artists, musicians, vendors and businesses, urging the community to continue supporting them during the hiatus.

The City of Las Vegas issued a statement affirming a shared commitment to public safety among the First Friday Foundation, Las Vegas police and the city. Officials called the Arts District "an integral part of the fabric of our city" and pledged support for the artists, businesses, residents and employees who make the neighborhood unique.
