The Vegas Golden Knights have added more veteran depth to their roster, signing forward Brandon Saad to a one-year, $1.5 million contract today.
In his 13th NHL season, Saad has played 906 games, recorded 515 points and won the Stanley Cup twice with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2013 and 2015.
He joins Alex Pietrangelo (1065 games) as the only other Golden Knight to play in over 900 career games. Saad has also played in over 100 playoff games.
Saad was placed on waivers by the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday, with the intention of sending him down to the American Hockey League.
Blues general manager Doug Armstrong said the reason for the move was to open up cap space. Saad had one more year left on a five-year contract, with an annual hit of $4.5 million.
Despite the Blues' move, Saad has been productive this season. He's played in 43 games and recorded 16 points.
At left wing, he will likely provide some consistency for Vegas on the fourth line, which has cycled through multiple players from Henderson over the past few weeks.
Alexander Holtz, who was acquired in a trade with the New Jersey Devils for Paul Cotter, has been a healthy scratch for the Golden Knights last two games. Instead, he has been replaced by Henderson call-ups Raphael Lavoie and Cal Burke at the wing position.
The Golden Knights are in New York on Sunday to take on the Rangers at 3 p.m. The game kicks off a four-game road trip before the 4 Nations Face-Off break.
