Gorman's Prince Williams named state football player of the year

Bishop Gorman defensive lineman Prince Williams exited last week’s state championship game against Arbor View in the first quarter with a leg injury. 

But when the Gaels secured another state title, coach Brent Browner made sure his three-year starting defensive standout was first in the handshake line.

That’s how valuable Williams was to his team.

MaxPreps recognized that value as well, naming the senior its Nevada state player of the year on Monday. Williams’ dominant season included 91 tackles, 44 tackles for loss, 13 sacks, 18 quarterback hurries and three forced fumbles.

Browner told him, “I know you are on crutches. Get up because you have to be the first in line. I don’t know how to go out there without you.”

Williams finished his Gorman career as the school’s leader in tackles (265), tackles for loss (98) and sacks (34), MaxPreps said.

He’ll play in college at Arizona.
