Hasan hits Bangladesh's first century in Australia

Tanzid Hasan Tamim scored his maiden Test century as Bangladesh seized a 153‑run lead over Australia on the second day of the opening Test in Darwin. Opening the innings, Tamim remained unbeaten on 101 off 197 deliveries, guiding Bangladesh to 351 for six at stumps. His effort came after Australia had been dismissed for 198, with Hasan Mahmud claiming six for 55 and Steve Smith top‑scoring with 71. Speaking after his innings, Tamim said, “I can't picture it in words, but it was very special for me,” he said. “I love to play in these conditions, the atmosphere is getting better and better.” The 25‑year‑old began the day on 32, sharing a 102‑run partnership for the second wicket with Mominul Haque, who fell to Josh Hazlewood for 49 before lunch. Tamim then added 93 runs with captain Najmul Hossain Shanto as Australia struggled in the heat at Marrara Oval. His innings ended when he drove a Nathan Lyon delivery to long‑off, where Mitchell Starc took the catch. Australia responded with three quick wickets after tea, but Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Hasan Mahmud added an unbeaten 43 to keep Bangladesh ahead. Australia has never lost a home Test to Bangladesh, their only defeat against the Tigers coming in six matches at Mirpur in 2017. The match is the first of a two‑Test series.
